Realization of Prophetic Visions
By Philip Mark Ames
Worship of the Beast
John reports that "the whole earth was made
to wonder at the beast." And in his vision he saw that the people
"gave worship to the dragon because it gave the authority to the beast.
And they gave worship to the beast, saying, ‘Who is like the wild beast, and who
is able to make war with it?’" (Rev. 13:3, 4) The most recent real threat
to democracy was led by Germany
and Japan
during World War II. Democracy prevailed. It has now become the ideological
king of nearly every nation on earth. The world has been made "safe for
democracy." Its seven heads may vie for superiority; but no man or army
now on earth appears to threaten its existence or sovereignty. No Alexander, no
Caesar, no Napoleon, no Hitler. And John saw no such conqueror arise with
enough power to success- fully make war with the "will of the
people." No, the wild beast will not be destroyed by any less a personage
than Jesus Christ himself. The angel told John that the beast's ten horns will
make war with the Lamb. Those ten spirit kings will actually fight against
Jesus Christ; that is what spells the end of their career, and the destruction
of the beast itself. But, until then, people of the whole earth will be
worshipping both the democratic beast and the Satanic dragon.
Actually, nearly all literate people are already
giving worship to the wild beast. They pay homage to the ideal that
"government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not
perish from the earth." And they are giving worship to the dragon by espousing
his God rejecting proposal that man can and should rule himself, deciding for
himself what is good and what is bad. But, the case for democracy will become
even stronger in the near future.
