An Oligarchy
The angel concludes his identification of the
great fornicatrix by saying: "And the woman whom you saw is the great
city, the one having empire over the kings of the earth." He had
previously said that she sits upon the seven heads of the wild beast. This fact
clinches the identity of Babylon
the Great. Wealth buys votes. It also buys elected officials. The super-rich
control the religious kingdoms as well as the political. Their oligarchy is
world wide. Even over Russia,
the super-rich have great influence.
There have been attempts made by the democratic
beast to reduce the power of this Babylonish oligarchy. There have been some
laws passed, some fines imposed, some anti-trust suits filed. But, so far,
these amount to only slight balkiness. The woman still rides and rules the
seven-headed beast.
